VIRTUES OF RAMADAN

VIRTUES OF FASTING

O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may guard (against evil).

1. Ramadhan is a ‘blessed month full of barakah and Divine mercy.

2. The gates of Jannah are opened, and the gates of hellfire are closed. The big shiyateen are chained. Ar -rayan is the door of fasting. However, all doors are open because of all the good deeds we do.

3. In Ramadhan is the night of Layla tul Qadr which is equal to worship of 1000 months. Prophet SAAW said whoever has been deprived of its blessings has indeed been deprived.

3. Prophet SAAW said in Ramadhan the ابواب الرحمه are opened. Jannah is called mercy because we enter it only through Allah’s mercy.

4. He SAAW also called Ramadan the month of Eid…why? Because the true celebration begins at the beginning of Ramadhan.

5. He SAAW also called it شهر الصبر……..the month of patience…. he SAAW said half of entering Jannah is patience. And patience is a victory.

6. Allah swt also calls it the month of patience…. واستعينوا الصبور والصلاة…….seek closeness to Allah swt through patience and صلاة…scholars of tafseer agree patience refers here to fasting.

7. FORGIVENESS

THREE AHADITH:

Prophet SAAW said:

1. Whoever fasts sincerely with faith he will be forgiven his past sins.

2. Whoever stands up just the night of Layla tul Qadr , the night of decree, seeking faith and reward then he will be forgiven all his minor sins.

3. Whoever stands in night prayer in Ramadan he will be forgiven all his previous sins.
This shows us that many opportunities are given to get close to ALLAH SWT. Thus, fasts protect us from the hellfire.

9. All deeds are multiplied and super increased in rewards in Ramadan.

10. Ramadan is the month of QURAN….شهر القران. First revelation of the Quran came in Ramadan. In fact, every scripture was first sent in Ramadan. For example:

• Scripture of Ibrahim was revealed first night of Ramadhan
• Torah on 6th day of Ramadan
• Gospels on 13th day
• Zaboor of Dawood AS on 18th Ramadan
• Quran revealed (first wahy ) on 24th Ramadan( Sahih Muslim Imam Ahmad)

So, it would make ليلة القدر the night of decree possibly on the 25th….it could be any of the odd nights, therefore. best to pray in all last ten nights and not miss it.

Ibn Qayyim RA said that ALLAH SWT initiated all wahy in Ramadhan and started a connection with all prophets. In the same way ALLAH SWT has given all of us an opportunity to turn back to Him SWT and initiate the newfound relationship with His SWT’s servants. What a beautiful blessing to reconnect with Allah Swt and refresh and reaffirm our faith.

11. Jibril AS used to come to prophet SAAW in the month of Ramadan and review the Quran with prophet SAAW every single year. In the last year of prophet SAAW ‘s life he reviewed it twice with prophet SAAW

12. Narrated by Abdullah Ibn Al -Aas RA…..prophet SAAW said fasting and Quran would intercede for us on the day of judgement. Fasting will say O my Rabb I forbade him from food and desires….so accept my intercession. Quran will say I kept him from sleeping in the night so accept my intercession from me. Sahih Bukhari. So, they will both come and argue on your behalf.

13. The authentic dua for breaking fast is

ذهب الظمأ وابتلت العروق وتبت الاجر انشا الله

The thirst has gone, and the veins are moist, and the reward is assured if Allah wills.

14. Prophet SAAW used to break his fast with dates, dry fruit and water. However, there is no authentic hadith that says how many dates he ate.

15. The fasting person’s dua just before breaking his fast is accepted.

16. Prophet SAAW said that we face 4 types of trials health, wealth, children and neighbours. It’s atoned by 4 things. Prayer, fasting, sadaqah (charity) and enjoining good and forbidding evil.

17. Allah beautifies Jannah every day in Ramadan and says تز ين. Keep beautifying and getting better so everyday our house in Jannah is getting better.

18.narrated by Abu Huraira the prophet SAAW said ALLAH said:

Every good deed is for the son of Adam but fasting is for Me. I will reward accordingly on day of judgement. And the smell of the mouth of a fasting person is more beloved to me than musk.

Fasting requires a level of sincerity

Sufyan Ibn Ayeena said ALLAH SWT has kept the reward open ended
And it’s said that when people whom we’ve wronged will take away our good deeds away from us ALLAH will hold back reward of fasting and if it’s special enough and kept with sincerity He SWT would increase our fasting, so it covers the deficiency of our other deeds. SUBHAN ALLAH

PROPHET SAAW said there are two joys for the fasting person one when he breaks the fast and the other joy is when He meets ALLAH إن شاء الله

May Allah SWT allow us to enter Ramadan and grant us His mercy, forgiveness and pleasure. May we excel this Ramadan, and our deeds are multiplied and accepted إن شاء الله
