RABBANA DUA : SURAH IBRAHIM:VERSE 40-41

My Lord! make me keep up prayer and from my offspring (too), O our Lord, and accept my prayer:

O our Lord! grant me protection and my parents and the believers on the day when the reckoning

shall come to pass.

Reflections:

This prayer  was made by Ibrahim (AS). In the previous ️Ayah he is thanking Allah (SWT) for giving

him children , Ismail (AS) and Ishaq (AS ),in his old age.

In this verse he turns towards Allah (SWT) with a grateful heart and asks Allah (SWT) to make

him and his children righteous, his  parents righteous and all the muslims, those who submit to

Allah righteous too. He also asks Allah to make them Ones who fear Allah and love Allah, ones

whose hearts are firmly upon Tawheed. We can relate to these duas because all parents want their

children to be a source of goodness for them and others. We also learn from this that we should

make prayers for our children.

What does a heart upon tawheed do?How does it behave? What are it’s qualities?

💦 It turns towards Allah constantly in dhikr (Hamd:praise) (Taqwa:Allah consciouness)

💦 It maintains a close relationship with its Creator. (QURB: nearness)

💦 It is eager to know more about its Rabb ( the one you love you want to know more about them)

💦It feels honour in belonging to the Rabb-Al Alameen. Slavery to the Master is the most honoured position for any true sincere worshipper. (Humility: submission)

💦 A person on tawheed  accepts that the Creator is steering his ship and he feels happy that he is being led.(tawakul)

💦 To maintain the truth in his heart  he understands that he needs guidance and that direction is in firmly establishing Salah

(constant remembrance)( understands Allah’s knowledge is the greatest)

💎 All prophets reached tawheed through reflection before they received wahy(revelation)

💎 Every prophet was then taught to worship so they could learn  to remain firm upon it. So this

dua is seeking firmness with Allah because once you know the truth the only way you could stay

firm is through connecting with Allah constantly

What is Salah?

Salah is a prayer an obligation set by Allah (SWT) read five times a day , to develop discipline and connection to the Truth. It is  a

calling (dua) out to the Most Powerful, apraise, remembrance,  a comfort and  a sacred conversation. It is love in its truest pure form,

mercy and a blessing for us in this difficult world of tests.

1) Salah distinguishes a muslim from a non-muslim.

The importance of prayer is demonstrated in  many of the Prophet’s statements. For example, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said,

“The first matter that the slave will be brought to account for on the Day of Judgment is the prayer. If it is sound,

then the rest of his deeds will be sound. And if it is bad, then the rest of his deeds will be bad.” [Recorded by al-

Tabarani. According to al-Albani, it is sahih. Al-Albani, Sahih al-Jami, vol.1, p. 503.

2) Salah purifies and wipes sins:

Rasool Allah SAAW said:

“If a person had a stream outside his door and he bathed in it five times a day, do you think he would have any filth

left on him?” The people said, “No filth would remain on him whatsoever.” The Prophet (peace be upon him) then

said, “That is like the five daily prayers: Allah wipes away the sins by them.” (Recorded by al-Bukhari and Muslim.)

3) Salah is an obligation.

4) Salah is a shield against evil.

5) Salah is a visible outwardly act of obedience and submission.

6) Salah is food for the heart. It’s nourishment. Keeps the heart healthy because in Allah’s remembrance hearts find rest.

7) Salah is oxygen and without it we are spiritually dead. We are  deaf , dumb and blind. Through Salah we talk to

Allah (SWT) and this keeps us under Allah’s protection.

8) Salah reminds us of Allah throughout the day from the moment we get up till bed time. Helps us focus on the

ultimate goal of returning to Allah.

Allah’s guidance is never without Mercy. What He SWT teaches us always benefits us

What are the benefits of salah

1) closeness to Allah

2) protection of Allah

3) opens the doors of blessings from Allah

4) Helps develop taqwa.(Allah consciousness)…the heart always checks itself  and aims to correct through Salah.

We become Allah conscious and this is provision from Allah SWT if a heart is able to see Allah’s greatness.

 5) Allah is the friend of those who establish prayers.

6) Satan’s attacks are weakened when we hold on to salah.

Recite that which has been revealed to you of the Book and keep up prayer; surely prayer keeps (one) away from

indecency and evil, and certainly the remembrance of Allah is the greatest, and Allah knows what you do.

7) it’s a way to seek help from Allah

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اسْتَعِينُوا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلَاةِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الصَّابِرِينَ

O you who believe! Seek assistance through patience and prayer; surely Allah is with the patient.

8) prayer is also a good deed. And good deeds multiply through rewards from ALLAH . They grow into a tree that

benefits us and also others. Eg the congregational prayers like Jummstrengthen the believers to remain firm.

 حَافِظُوا عَلَى الصَّلَوَاتِ وَالصَّلَاةِ الْوُسْطَىٰ وَقُومُوا لِلَّهِ قَانِتِينَ

Attend constantly to prayers and to the middle prayer and stand up truly obedient to Allah.(2:238)

9) Prayer is also a gift for the believers. So they are never alone in this world.

So to remain firm upon the Truth we need Salah. It’s our oxygen and medicine. Read Salah  on correct times, and

hold on to it.  Grasp it firmly. Think of it like this: if we don’t read salah we are dead. Dead people no longer reach

out to ALLAH, don’t beg Allah for forgiveness and deprive themselves of mercy. We eventually also risk losing our

IMAN altogether  forever. There is no loss greater than that.

Treat your Salah times as ‘peace treats’ during the day. A break from all the things that we constantly are pre-

occupied with. Free your mind from daily worries just for a little while. Give yourself that focussed 5 or 10 minutes

so you could energise yourself for the day. Eg if you were really busy and you took a tea break it makes you feel a bit

better doesn’t it? Allah knows we need to sit with Him to strengthen to deal with the world. It’s His care and Mercy

for us. الحمد لله

Stay connected, keep holding on, keep worshipping, stay protected and remain blessed and steadfast.
