RABBANA DUA 8 : SURAH AL-IMRAN:53

رَبَّنَا آمَنَّا بِمَا أَنزَلْتَ وَاتَّبَعْنَا الرَّسُولَ فَاكْتُبْنَا مَعَ الشَّاهِدِينَ

Our Lord! we believe in what Thou hast revealed and we follow the apostle, so write us down with those who bear witness.

WHO MADE THIS DUA?

This dua was made by the disciples of Isa (As) (the Hawariyoun) in response to Isa (AS) who asked who will be my helper in doing Allah’s work. When any messenger brought the message of Tawheed (oneness of God) they were opposed and persecuted. They faced extreme challenges but were always strengthened by Allah SWT who sent Companions to strengthen and protect the messengers . They were sent to help them with spreading the message.

WHO ARE THE SHAHIDEEN IN THE DUA

SHAHIDEEN:

A shahid ( witness ):

💎 is a person who believes in the oneness of Allah SWT.
💎 Believes in the truthfulness of all messengers.
💎 is a sincere worshipper

💎 Has Taqwa of Allah

💎 loves Allah from the heart

💎 obeys Allah to the best of his/her ability and strives to be near perfection

💎 knows that ultimately his/her return is to Allah the King the sovereign. The Al- Malik.

Obedient servants existed in all times and eras. People transgressed and forgot the message of Tawheed, the oneness of Allah ( SWT). However despite this misguidance, even at that time, there were always some people who held on to the rope of Allah ( SWT) strongly and continued to spread the Truth with sincerity. For example ,The Ulool -Albab ( people of understanding), The Sabiqoon.. those who always try to be the first to do good. Alhamdulillah for these precious scattered pearls who with their efforts bring the weak ones of us together upon the message over and over again.

💎 All of mankind were shahideen when they took the promise known as Alast in Arabic, with their Lord before coming to earth. We were witnesses to the Truth. Every single human being from the beginning of times to the end of times wasin the company of The Lord . He SWT called and we responded.

💎 With our obedience in following the Truth and constantly trying to purify our hearts in this world,  we are actually living the ‘Alast’. We promised to live a righteous life. A truthful, honest and just life. We have to become walking witnesses of  the Truth through our character.

💎When we die, once again those who submit their will to Allah and followed the guidance become witnesses to the Truth. On the day of judgement muslims will again be witnesses that the messengers conveyed the message to the people with truth and sincerity.

💎 In this dua the disciples prayed to be one of those witnesses on the day of judgement. They ask Allah to write them among those who believed and obeyed.

💎 The friends of Allah love all other friends of Allah. Those who believe, do good, are patient  and enjoin others to the Truth. All those who existed in the past, exist in the present and would come in the future.

💎 reading about the struggles of the prophets and those who followed them fills our hearts with love for all their struggles. Their selflessness never ceases to amaze us. We can relate to their struggles because life is a huge test. Put yourself in their shoes. Just imagine it. The best way to reflect is to imagine being that person and personalising their struggles as if they were our own.

💎 Once our hearts are enlightened from within with faith we must strive to obey. After understading faith it is  important to follow the messenger and put our beliefs into action. This is Itibah which means to follow as mentioned in the dua. Both are important, belief is not enough on its own.  We must accept with our tongue, internalise it in our hearts and affirm with actions and sincerely submit.

As an ummah we must reflect. How are we serving Allah SWT. Are we doing the good work and spreading the message? Are we waiting for someone else to do it? Are we learning the guidance and pass it on to others the beautiful teachings and values that give the heart life.

Often when we think of doing the work of Allah we think someone else would do it. We think what can I do alone. Don’t think about the results just concentrate on intentions and efforts. Allah is the best planner and helper. Just keep doing the good work. Keep learning and correcting yourself first. Gently keep reminding your families. They may reject what you say first but eventually may listen. If we find we can’t do much then strengthen those who do,support them and help them.

A famous writer Ashfaq Ahmed said:

‘Keep doing good deeds and keep putting them in the river. One day the good deeds will become boats and come to rescue you’

May Allah join us with the righteous and the shahideen on the day of judgement and grant us His nearness, love and Jannat Al Firdous. Ameen.
